Looking Back…and Forward
By: Matthew Blevins, February 17th, 2007
It’s still hard for me to believe, but Editor’s Ink now officially has a long history. Started in 1997 by two “greenhorns”, the company and its founders have certainly had an interesting history and now, eleven years after founding the company, those young bucks are seasoned 30-somethings. I know, because I’m one of them, and I’m nothing if not “seasoned”. Michael, for his part, can tell you all about “salt and pepper”, but I digress…
Now, 2007 represents not only the company’s 11th year in business, but also a turning point. We have undergone five major web site overhauls in eleven years, and this latest figures to be the most comprehensive. From a technical standpoint, we’ve switched from a Windows 2003 IIS web server to FreeBSD/Apache. Eschewing .ASP coding, PHP and MySQL now power the back-end of the site and WordPress - ah, lovely WordPress - will power the company’s first-ever blog.
But the technical aspects are not what makes this change so important. Rather, the people involved with Editor’s Ink, including the as-yet-undiscovered freelance writing and editing gems out there, are the basis for both our success and our ability to provide top-flight service. If you’re reading this now and come back to visit in the future, you’ll see more posts by the other half of the founding tandem - Michael Wist - and, perhaps most importantly, from Linda Orlando, writer and editor extraordinaire. Linda has taken to and even redefined the role of project manager and, without getting into details, I’ll simply say that Linda takes “Quality Control” to a…ahem…new level.
With that, I offer this semi-nostalgic glance back in time, but with my eyes and mind looking and thinking in a straight line forward. For those who currently work with Editor’s Ink as freelancers or clients, I thank you. For those who will work with us in the future…you will have made an excellent choice. I say this not from an overblown opinion of my own abilities or Michael’s, but in an abiding confidence in the writers and editors who comprise Editor’s Ink.
